Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Datacenter is an advanced operating system designed for highly virtualized data centers and cloud environments. This version provides an unlimited number of virtual machines and Windows Server containers, allowing flexible resource management and infrastructure scaling according to organizational needs.

Processor

• At least a 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor, x64 instruction set compatible.
• Strong recommendation for 16-core systems: For demanding datacenter workloads, especially under heavy virtualization, a multi-core processor with a base frequency of 2.5 GHz or higher per core is strongly recommended to fully utilize the available cores.
• The processor must support the following functions: NX and DEP, CMPXCHG16b, LAHF/SAHF, and Prefetching.

Memory/RAM

• Minimum 512 MB (for Server Core installation) or 2 GB (for Server with Desktop Experience installation option).
• Strong recommendation for 16-core systems: Due to high virtualization requirements and the ability to run unlimited VMs and containers, at least 32 GB RAM is recommended, ideally 64 GB or more, to ensure optimal performance and scalability for virtual machines and data-intensive workloads.
• It is strongly recommended to use ECC (Error Correcting Code) or similar technology for deployments on physical hosts to ensure data integrity.

Hard disk space

• Minimum 32 GB.
• Strong recommendation for 16-core systems: Given advanced features such as Storage Spaces Direct and the need for high I/O performance for VMs and databases, at least 256 GB NVMe/SSD storage is recommended to achieve the best possible performance. Additional drives are required for the Storage Spaces Direct pool.

Network Requirements

• Ethernet adapter with a bandwidth of at least 1 Gigabit per second.
• Must be compliant with the PCI Express architecture specification.
• For datacenter environments with high network throughput, 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters or higher are strongly recommended to fully leverage the scalability and performance of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and other data-intensive features.

Additional Requirements

• UEFI 2.3.1c-based system and firmware that support secure boot.
• Trusted Platform Module (TPM):
  • Hardware-based TPMs must implement version 2.0 of the TPM specification.
  • TPMs that implement version 2.0 must have an EK certificate that is pre-provided to the TPM by the hardware manufacturer or can be downloaded by the device at first boot.
  • TPMs that implement version 2.0 must ship with SHA-256 PCR banks and implement PCR 0 through 23 for SHA-256. It is acceptable to ship TPMs with a switchable PCR bank that can be used for both SHA-1 and SHA-256 measurements.
  • The UEFI option to disable the TPM is not required.
• A graphics device and monitor that supports Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher resolution (primarily relevant for the Desktop Experience installation).
