Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Datacenter – System Requirements:

The following requirements are based on previous Windows Server versions and optimized for the expected performance characteristics of Windows Server 2025. The following minimum and recommended specifications apply to 16- and 24-core versions:

Processor

• At least a 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor, x64 instruction set compatible.
• Recommendation for 16- and 24-core systems: For optimal performance, especially under heavy workloads, a multi-core processor with a base frequency of at least 2.5 GHz per core is recommended.
• Must support the following functions: NX and DEP, CMPXCHG16b, LAHF/SAHF, and Prefetching.

Memory/RAM

• Minimum 512 MB (for Server Core installation) or 2 GB (for Server with Desktop Experience installation option).
• Strong recommendation for 16- and 24-core systems: For a stable and high-performance environment, especially when using more cores and running multiple services, at least 8 GB RAM is recommended — ideally 16 GB or more, depending on planned workloads and number of VMs (while Datacenter is better suited for this, Standard can also host VMs).
• It is strongly recommended to use ECC (Error Correcting Code) or similar technology for deployments on physical hosts to ensure data integrity.

Hard disk space

• Minimum 32 GB.
• Recommendation for 16- and 24-core systems: Considering the potential scope of installations and data volume, at least 128 GB SSD/NVMe storage is recommended to ensure high I/O performance.

Network Requirements

• Ethernet adapter with a bandwidth of at least 1 Gigabit per second.
• Must be compliant with the PCI Express architecture specification.

Additional Requirements

• UEFI 2.3.1c-based system and firmware that support secure boot.
• Trusted Platform Module (TPM):
  • Hardware-based TPMs must implement version 2.0 of the TPM specification.
  • TPMs that implement version 2.0 must have an EK certificate that is pre-provided to the TPM by the hardware manufacturer or can be downloaded by the device at first boot.
  • TPMs that implement version 2.0 must ship with SHA-256 PCR banks and implement PCR 0 through 23 for SHA-256. It is acceptable to ship TPMs with a switchable PCR bank that can be used for both SHA-1 and SHA-256 measurements.
  • The UEFI option to disable the TPM is not required.
• A graphics device and monitor that supports Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher resolution (primarily relevant for the Desktop Experience installation).
