The software is in addition to programs like Word, PowerPoint or Excel in the Office package from Microsoft contain^[1]. It is focused on smaller companies and private customers. It does not reach the complexity of Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress or Affinity Publishers, but it is easier to use. The filename extension for files created with Publisher pub.

Content can be created using templates in the WYSIWYG-Publish procedures quickly and easily. Stand for design sets to select. Also greeting cards and invitations can be created and edited.

With the publisher you can use up to version 2007 sites created, but none HTMLfiles are opened. Only websites created with Publisher can be opened again with Publisher, but also receive the usual HTML ending. Web page creation features were removed in version 2010.

Like the other programs in the Office suite, Publisher has an interface with so-called Ribbons, although this function was only added with the 2010 version.
